I recently participated in an email marketing roundtable at the AAMP conference in LA. Topics impacting the group were 1- how we can cut through the in-box clutter to improve response rates and 2—what things outside of email people are successfully using.
Here are 8 ideas that were brought up that marketers can test today, many for no cost:
–For several publishers, a subject line of “claim your current issue” worked better than “get the current issue now”
–Holiday sale. Even in B2B, a light hearted approach might just stand out from the typical business formatted email
–“48 hours” or short response time frame
–Putting the copy ABOVE the graphic, especially for mobile
–Creating a pop-up newsletter series that focuses on a specific topic can boost responses
–Email that looks like it has been forwarded
–In addition to email, marketers are using paid search, social media, and apps.
And my favorite, the “Oops! We made a mistake” email. Even when there wasn’t a real “oops!” Several people said they had luck with this email.
Let me know if you have tried any of these ideas or have any new ideas to add to the list. Also, what on this list will you test next?
